Canine & Feline Hydrotherapy

After injury, many animals lose the ability to move correctly. This can often persist indefinitely leading to further muscle wastage and increased joint pain. The water treadmill allows us to help these individuals redevelop functional movement patterns, improve their muscle function and develop sensory awareness. It also helps:-

  • Improve muscle endurance and strength
  • Increases joint range of motion
  • Helps reduce swelling and odema
  • Improves heart and lung function

The treadmill provides a safe environment for the early introduction of exercise post surgery. We can enter the treadmill with the patient and assist them to place their legs correctly and make sure that they learn to walk correctly rather than compounding movement problems by persisting with abnormal patterns of movement. In the treadmill, we can target specific joints or muscle groups. By varying the depth of the water we can make conditions easier or more of a challenge. Hydrotherapy can potentially make a patient much worse and should only be carried out by a skilled professional.
